There were many twists and turns to the plot, many relating to the psychological aspect. At times I felt a little jerked around and definitely deceived. I am just not so sure all of those psychological twists work. I really like Parks' writing style.

She has a way of having tension run continually through the plot. I do recommend this novel to readers who enjoy learning about WW II in Alaska and forensic art while being entertained with a mysterious cold case and a suspenseful current mystery. I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review. It seemed like an untapped resource and caught my eye as soon as I read the description. I felt like I needed to read this book just to find that out! It all came full circle nicely. For me Murphy was just ok as the main character. I liked her job forensic artist but that was about it.

The story itself was suspenseful and there were a lot of things going on that had to come together. While the author did a good job at wrapping things up, I personally felt like there were a few too many things happening in the story that at times it became distracting. I mean there is a serial killer, the Nazis, biological weapons…. This is a new author to me, though she has written a number of other books and series, this one is a stand alone.

I was happy to read this as fall kicked off because the setting really got me in the mood for fall. Also her experience with writing is evident in this book. She clearly knows how to spin a tale and write mysteries. She knows just how to hook her audience in and keep them reading. Practice makes perfect and Stuart Parks did a standout job hooking me into the book.

I understand why the author moved in another direction. At the same time, I really loved Gwen and her meddling best friend. Now that I've cleared the air on that Murphy Anderson is the main character in Formula of December. She's likable and the facts about her past surface layer by layer. I enjoyed that approach of slowly sharing her story. At the same time, I was confused at some points about what she was remembering.

There Formula of Deception is the first book after the Gwen Marcey series. There were many twists and turns in the story and I definitely didn't figure out the details until they were unveiled. My gratitude to publisher Thomas Nelson for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and the opinions expressed are my own. May 01, Kristine Morgan rated it it was amazing. The plot was fast moving and full of twists. I was guessing clear up to the last page.

Parks created a tale full of witty dialogue and interesting characters I loved Vesper! Set in Kodiak Alaska, the scenery was gorgeous. I loved the references to a painful era in US history. And tieing in Inuit legends added another layer to the story. This is the first novel of Ms Parks that I have read, but it certainly won't be the last. So grab a mug of tea and settle in for an exciting adventure full of murder and mayhem!

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations. All thoughts are my own! Formula of Deception is a great mystery with many twists and turns. The story takes place in Kodiak, Alaska where artist Murphy Anderson takes a job as a crime scene artist with the local police department. She has been asked to draw a crime scene that a dying Russian man stumbled upon ten years ago when he found five bodies on the remote island of Ruuwaq.

But it soon becomes apparent that someone is trying to stop the crime from being exposed. In the middle of working on her drawing the Russian Formula of Deception is a great mystery with many twists and turns. In the middle of working on her drawing the Russian and his caretaker are killed. Murphy is in Kodiak to find out what happened when her twin sister was murdered by her boyfriend, serial killer Clinton Hunter.

Murphy is using her middle name and has changed her look so that she won't be recognized. After the Russian and his caretaker are killed, people around Murphy start being murdered or injured. Then she finds out that Hunter has escaped prison. Someone is leaving notes that appear to be from him. Maybe he is the one killing people and is trying to get to her. But there is also something going on with the island where the bodies were found-something that dates back to World War II and is tied to people in Kodiak as well as the government of the US and other countries during the war.

Murphy doesn't know who to trust as people around her are killed. This is a tale that is winding and full of surprises. It is a very interesting story that is hard to put down as the story unwinds and the truth is exposed by layers. Another great mystery by Carrie Stuart Parks. I received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. All opinions stated are mine only. Jun 29, Donna Stuart rated it it was amazing. Formula of Deception starts off with the life of Murphy Andersen, a woman in Alaska who is living in the basement apartment of a mobile home. Her purse had been stolen, along with her id and money, and she was posing as a forensic artist to pay rent until she got her belongings back. Her forensic artist "job" takes her to a remote island to sketch the gruesome scene of five bodies, long dead.

As she is drawn in to a web of de Carrie Stuart Parks created a book that had me from the first chapter. As she is drawn in to a web of deceit and international affairs dating back to World War II, Murphy finds she cannot trust anyone. At the core of it all, Murphy is being stalked by her twin sister's murderer - and he wants to kill Murphy too.

This book builds up to a climax I didn't see coming. I highly recommend Formula of Deception. Oct 17, Nancee rated it it was amazing. Carrie Stuart Parks has become my favorite suspense author! She never disappoints, and the action is nonstop as well as unpredictable! This book is very well researched, with some very interesting historic information that I hadn't previously known. Characters are deeply defined, and the setting is descriptive and authentic. This may very well be this author's best novel yet!

Don't miss it! Aug 29, Janice rated it it was amazing. I loved this book!

The Hampstead Mystery (FULL Audiobook)

I have found a new author to look to when I want to read satisfying Christian suspense. The main character was determined and appealing. The ending was astounding! Jun 22, Doreen rated it it was amazing. Murphy Anderson is hiding out in Kodiak, Alaska when her unique skills get her drawn into a mystery. Parks has done it again! This is a fabulous suspense novel. It covers a lot of ground including a serial killer, nazi germany, biological weapons, forensic art and more and weaves them together seamlessly. The plot is full of action and danger Murphy Anderson is hiding out in Kodiak, Alaska when her unique skills get her drawn into a mystery.

The plot is full of action and danger and there are lots of twists and deceptions that left me rethinking what certain people had said or done before. It was fascinating. Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a complimentary e-copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. Jun 20, Tammy G. I try to never read her stories at night.

What to Eat This Week

Murphy Anderson has changed her name and her appearance and moved to Kodiak, Alaska since someone murdered her twin sister. She has avoided press and publicity until the local authorities find out that she is artist and request her help to draw a dying man's memories. Well, this puts Murphy right smack in the limelight and the killer is on her trail once more.

But this is a most unusual case. Once Murphy has drawn the five bodies that the Alaskan hunter found on the remote Ruuwaq island there are only questions. This quite an interesting read with tons of suspense. And at times there are more questions than answers in this case. It's quite a challenge for the armchair detective to figure out what this case is all about and how it is all connected. Jul 30, Robert Jones rated it it was amazing Shelves: recommendations.

Murphy's lies were getting her in deep, ever since she came to Kodiak Island she just couldn't keep out of these situations. What began as a half truth has quickly ensnared her in an investigation as a forensic artist. After a year on Kodiak, Murphy found that the rain provided a perfect atmosphere.

Hiding from the past was becoming comfortable. Painting a few pictures, crafting sea glass jewelry helped her get by. She knows that Murphy has what it takes to help document the newest crime scenes. She knows she can trust Murphy to get the evidence that will lead to a conviction. Murphy's twin sister, Dallas Carrie Parks, is missing! A serial killer, Clinton Hunter, was her last boyfriend. Is it possible Dallas could still be alive? Murphy would never give up searching until she knew for sure! Disguised, she went to Kodiak, Alaska, the last known place her sister lived. She desperately needed to search for clues of what actually happened. Murphy's face was disfigured with a long line from her forehead, over her eye, and down one cheek as a result of calling the police on Hu Murphy's twin sister, Dallas Carrie Parks, is missing!

Murphy's face was disfigured with a long line from her forehead, over her eye, and down one cheek as a result of calling the police on Hunter before she escaped The police in Kodiak, were short-handed and needed a forensic artist to do a composite sketch. Murphy was an artist, so let them believe she worked for another police force. Murphy finds herself in danger from several sources.

Is there anyone she can trust? The nightmares are increasing. Could any of the nightmares be real? Her talents are needed by various individuals, but people all around her are ending up dead! This tale will keep the reader "on the edge of his. There are many unexpected "twists". The ending was complete, yet felt a little weak after such a dramatic "build up".

Also, while M Murphy was "reflecting", it was slightly confusing but in the end, the "reflections" all "came together". The story plot idea was very clever. This is my honest review. Jul 26, Carol rated it it was amazing. Formula Of Deception - Wow did Ms. Parks outdo herself. This story is thrilling, agonizingly mysterious, calculating and downright breathtaking from the ride you are on - you have it all - the who, what, where, when and why - who and why is what you are so longing looking at each page trying to find out just who and just why. The author has brilliantly made the characters full of life and what is most of all important - full of Faith.

The characters are complicating real. They were brought to life from the very beginning. You have Murphy Anderson - who is an artist - but tries to convince others that she is a forensic artist. Will she even care that her life is in danger? Is seeking the one hiding as smart as she thinks it is? The reason why she does all this is for a very serious - life changing reason. While she portrays herself as a Forensic Artist she is hired by The police in the town she just moved to - she starts working in a cold case as well as trying to deal with this secret she has that causes severe repercussions on those she know.

Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Breathe now, you won't be able to later As soon as I saw that Carrie Stuart Parks had a new book coming out I knew that it would be a must-read for me, I didn't even read the blurb to find out what it was about until I already had a copy on my Kindle. Formula Of Deception was everything I could hav Breathe now, you won't be able to later Formula Of Deception was everything I could have hope for and more, lots more. I loved it!!! Carrie Stuart Parks' no-nonsense, straightforward, rather blunt, writing style captured me from the first book of hers that I read and each succeeding title only furthers my appreciation of her talents.

Formula Of Deception was delightfully chilling, spine-tingling, and even a little eerie in places. Merging a seventy year old mystery, terrifying secrets, and some modern people that will stop at nothing to get what they want, Carrie Stuart Parks takes her readers on a wild ride they won't soon forget. I just couldn't seem to turn the pages fast enough with this book and now I am left, waiting, desperately waiting, for the next book from this author I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

All opinions are entirely my own. Jul 22, Danielle Urban rated it it was amazing. Ellison, and Brenda Novak. Carrie Stuart Parks brings a lot of excitement and danger in this thrilling read. Yet, investigators are getting closer and their death hangs into the air.

As new and old victims pile up, the intensity of the situation rises. This dark Alaskan murder mystery, kept giving me chills. Inside Formula of Deception, I got to meet a twin of a dead woman. The twin, Murphy Anderson, goes into hiding. Staying away from a murderer, is the plan. However, Murphy is soon drawn out of hiding and back into danger. Murphy has a talent that is needed for an investigation. This now, puts her at high risk.

The murderer is still killing people to keep the historical secret hidden. It's only a matter of time, before everything escalates out of control. Overall, this one was phenomenal. I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review. Jul 02, Tracie rated it it was amazing. One of the aspects of the story I most enjoyed was the sense there's another, unknown, story lurking beneath what the characters say and do on the surface.

We like Murphy, the main character, from the start. The theft of her purse and other u fortunate events place her in a difficult situation, so we cheer for her as people offer help. Along with Murphy, though, we're not quite sure who we can trust. And we're disappointed when her new friends aren't always able to be there for her. Murphy doesn't allow the setbacks keep her from pursuing her stated mission to discover what happened to her sister.

The obstacles she faces are daunting: mysterious dead bodies, a WWII secret, people with false identities, and a government cover up. Parks has included all the elements of great suspense reading. I wasn't quite ready for the story to end. Perhaps another story is needed with Murphy and Joshua and Vesper--and "soul searching. There are no discussion topics on this book yet.
